It is usually a bad idea to put all your eggs in one basket. It’s too risky and if things do not work out you lose everything. It’s best to put your eggs in different baskets. This way if things don’t go as planned, then you can rely on the other baskets to see you through. If you win with one basket, however, you win big.
It makes perfect sense to put all your eggs in Christ’s Basket. Follow only Christ and victory is assured. Throw everything you’ve got into the Son of Man and you will emerge a winner. There is no silver or bronze. A gold medal is guaranteed every time.
So why do we hesitate to put all our eggs in Christ’s Basket? Why do we take half-measures with Christ and spread our eggs among other baskets such as My Basket, World Basket, and Satan’s Basket?
Believing in Jesus is difficult if you cannot see, hear or touch Him. It can be a stretch sometimes to think the Christ will solve all your problems. When push comes to shove it is better rely on yourself to do and get what is necessary to reach your goals and live a happy, fulfilling and prosperous life.
Listen and follow society’s rules. Do not rock the boat and make waves. Keep your head down, do as you are told, do not question authority or people will wonder why you are so different and shun you as an outsider at best, a radical or weirdo at worst.
The prince of the air whispers lies, deceit, discouragement, and self-doubt telling you to do anything but follow Christ. Love is not the answer, Satan says, because the Bible is full of fairy tales for the weak, naive and easily led. Forget worship and sacrifice – you are smarter than that. Follow me and I will lead you to riches, fame and power beyond your wildest dreams.
There are many more baskets where we quietly place our eggs…just in case.
Christ’s Basket is usually half empty. Many believe in God (more or less), show up on Sunday (when we can), read the Bible (if we have time), wear a cross (to prove we really are Christian), sign up for church activities (playing church is expected). Just in case it’s all true. We play it safe with Christ hoping He will recognize and welcome us with open arms at the Gates of Heaven.
Or maybe not…
Maybe there is a special area on either side of Heaven’s Gate. A place where souls linger and contemplate why they did not put all their eggs in Christ’s Basket. A place where souls come to a holy and righteous understanding of their sins in taking half-measures in Christ.
If there is such a place, I think it is called “All Most.”
“All were good and true…most of the time”
“All loved most of their neighbors as themselves”
“All were mostly born again in the spirit”
“All as one in Christ…for the most part”
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers! (Matthew 7: 21-23)
A haunting piece of scripture. Arriving at the Heaven’s Gate and the Lord saying, “I never knew you.” Away from me and join the rest in All Most.
Many of us hesitate to put all our eggs in Christ’s Basket. We are pushed and pulled in so many different directions, everyone and everything competing for our faith. To believe with all our heart, soul, mind and body in one true and righteous Lord Almighty whom we serve and obey no matter what we think, the world says, and the evil one seductively whispers in our ear.
Who are we in Christ if we cannot give it all to the one who gave it all to us?
Take a big risk. Put all your eggs in His Basket…and reap certain victory now and forever more.Put all your eggs in Christ's Basket and reap certain victory Click To Tweet
