Hope and Light Givers
I ran into a Christian friend of mine the other day. Full of doom and gloom about the world. He went on and on about everything getting worse and worse. People are mean, selfish, entitled and greedy. Social problems are right off the scale and all out economic collapse is just around the corner. We are living in the last days and one day soon the world will come crashing down all around us.
I stood there and nodded politely, listening to everything he said. I tried to interject and put a positive spin on things but he would not hear of it. No, the world was going to hell in a hand-basket and all we can do is bide our time until the Second Coming. I left the conversation with a dark, heavy cloud of depression and despair hanging over me. Ugh!
Is it just me or do you know Christians who are also full of doom and gloom about the world? To be honest, it does not make any sense.
When I got saved I was bursting with love, joy, freedom and excitement. I was over the moon after I discovered God was actually real and Jesus Christ was alive and kicking in my heart. For the first time in decades I looked forward to the future with tremendous hope and anticipation.
“What does God have planned for my life?”
“How will I be different a year from now?”
“What cool experiences will I have with Jesus?”
“How is the Lord going to use me to change the world?”
The questions and possibilities were endless. I soon discovered once God reaches into your life, makes you His, turns your life inside out…who knows what can happen next? With God in your corner, anything is possible. What impossible and crazy things would He do in my life?
It was like being a little kid the night before Christmas. Eyes wide open, unable to sleep, exploding with excitement. Knowing deep in my heart that my life was going to get so much better. Hey – if Christ can rescue and save a beaten-down, cynical, bitter, remorseful person like me He can do anything!
Christianity is full of hope and light. We are here to give hope to a fallen world and illuminate darkness in every corner. In our family, neighborhood, community, state, province, nation, and around the world. We are a shining beacon of goodness and truth. As followers of Jesus Christ we must be positive, hopeful, radiant, reassuring and full of love.
We are not a doom and gloom people. It is our duty as sons and daughters of Christ to fight and defeat darkness and evil in all its forms, wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head. We cannot sit by and blindly accept everything we see, hear, and read in the world. We are not a passive people. We need to walk the talk, be the doers of Christ. Don’t look to your neighbor to do it. Look inside, call out the hope and light, and let it shine. It begins and ends with you.
We are Hope and Light Givers. We give hope where there is anxiety and fear. We give light where there is depression and misery. We not only extinguish the darkness but we revel in light. We should be so lit up in Christ that we blind everything and everyone around us. Why, people should put on sunglasses when we walk into the room. The enemy should shriek and flee in terror at the very sight of us on the distant horizon. Exploding in light and radiating hope, love and joy even in the darkest of places.
The next time I find myself in a doom and gloom conversation, I am going to put a quick end to it. No more. This is not who I am or whose I am. War, terrorism, poverty, addiction, murder, rape, discrimination, hatred, greed, corruption, injustice…evil in any form has no chance when it comes against the power and love of God. For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8).
Stand up, step out, and be a Hope and Light Giver – everywhere and all the time.Be Christ's Hope and Light Givers to the World Click To Tweet
